If you’re exploring the eastern coast of the island, be sure to schedule a stop at The Coconut Shack. This ramshackle beach bar has a handful of plastic tables out back overlooking the water, a few colorful hammocks, and next-level mojitos. This island institution is a must for a sundowner, with a two-for-one happy hour and live music on Thursday through Sunday evenings. While there are shore-based snorkeling spots, the majority of the beautiful sites require a boat journey. In addition, the island provides plenty of shallow dive sites, making it an excellent choice for novice divers.

Be sure to leave some time to taste the local flavors from some of the best restaurants in the area, sip a cold margarita while you relax on some of the Caribbean’s best beaches. Visit as soon as you dock or while you’re waiting to board after your day ashore. This area is full of big-name shops but also local Mexican vendors as well as a pharmacy. If you’re looking for a quieter place to relax and enjoy a good book without interruption, try visiting one of these options on the “other” side of the island. There’s plenty of sea life with large schools of tropical fish and an excellent chance to view turtles and manta rays! It’s also a very uncrowded beach club with great food and lounge chairs.

Note that while you may see a lot of tourists on scooters, the accident rate on Cozumel is extremely high, so be sure you know what you're doing before you rent one on the island. For an island that's only 185 square miles, there are a surprising number of ways to get there. The easiest way to reach Cozumel is to fly directly into its airport (CZM). The small Aeropuerto Internacional de Cozumel receives flights from American, Delta, Southwest, United, Volaris, Aeromexico, Air Canada, WestJet, and Sun Country Airlines.

The park sits right on the water, with a wide expanse of beach to sit and hang out underneath a palapa in a lounge chair. Unlike some other spots, this is a beach bar so there’s not an admission fee, but instead you buy food and drink to have access to the facilities. There are private shuttle services available as well from the Cancun International Airport. Booking in advance is the best option to make sure you're guaranteed transportation.

Cozumel is an island located off the Yucatan Peninsula in the Quintana Roo state of Mexico. It is officially an island, so you’ll have to take a ferry boat to get to the Mexican mainland. A great way to ensure the preservation of the reef is to take only pictures and memories and leave only bubbles. All these beaches are perfect to enjoy the clear waters, the tropical weather and nature and to relax under the sun. Just remember to wear a lot of sunscreen if you plan on walking from pier to pier.

Take pictures of the car and any scratches or dents before leaving the car rental lot to ensure you’re not held liable. You should be well-prepared for a trip to Cozumel as long as you bring lightweight clothing, sunscreen, and some extra cash. If you’re snorkeling, you might want to consider bringing your own gear. Cozumel is around 30 miles (48 km) long and 10 miles (16 km) wide.
